Introduction
This report purports to examine the difficulties caused by traffic congestion in our city based on the recent survey conducted by our class, and suggest measures to curb these negative impacts.
The deleterious effects
From the results of our online questionnaire, we found that the traffic jams were caused by the increasing number of vehicles, due to the more residents moving to the city. As a result, traffic at rush hour has risen, leading to gridlocks and bottlenecks at intersections and highways. As a consequence, students are late for school, and employees, for work.
Not only has the heavy traffic disrupted the running of the city. But it has also been the cause of air pollution in our city. The harmful pollutants such as carbon monoxide and Sulphur dioxide, produced by motor vehicles have created smog over our city, reducing visibility on reads. Consequently, the low clarity could have perilous, and even fatal aftermaths in the future.
Recommendations
In light of the information above, I propose that more traffic wardens be employed during rush hour to enforce traffic rules such as ensuring both drivers and pedestrians follow the traffic lights. The city council could also introduce rush hour toll to discourage motorists from using the city centre during the peak hours. Moreover, a ride-sharing program such as car-pools should be encouraged to abate the total number of vehicles on road. These measures are certain to curb the prevailing issue of traffic congestion and its knock-on effects.
