   Character defines mankind::

By Mariyam Ruuya

            “Character maketh a man”, and every single person has a significant character. It is vital that one builds up a significant character, so as to make oneself respectable among everyone. However, character is often adversely affected by the behaviour of others around one. This forces one to take action, in order to avoid losing face in the society. This articles analyses both perspectives of the issue.

            The most predominant fact is that shaping one’s character is the sole responsibility of every individual. If one is able to control their thoughts and emotions well, the question of being influenced by a third party, would never arise. This is because one must always understand that whatever behaviour one shows, would only come back to one; in the form of either a boon or a bane. Therefore, one’s increase in concern, about the character they display, may aid one to obstruct any negative influences that trigger.

            On the other side of the coin, there is a school of thought that an immature mindset can be easily convinced by anyone. This is owing to the fact that these young minds do not usually consider the aftermath of any aspect before implementing it in their lives. This invites the unacceptable features along with the acceptable features, ruining one’s character, at the end of the day.

            To state it concisely, as Francis Bacon quoted, “Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed and a few to be chewed and digested”, I believe that one should be alert of every external interference, to be able to tell apart what to approve and disapprove. Then only would one be successful in instilling a dependable character in themselves, to be able to contribute and develop the society.
